Welcome to RefreshLock for Windows NT/2000/XP, and 95/98/98SE/Me!
=================================================================================

Please read the accompanying EULA.txt file, as it contains your license
agreement.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUICK START

This program runs direct from the .exe, so place the RefreshLock directory
wherever you want it to run from first.

1) SAVE ALL YOUR WORK

2) Make sure you are using the correct monitor drivers, not the Plug & Play ones
(the Plug & Play drivers mostly do NOT give the best frequencies).

3) If using Windows NT/2000/XP, just click the 'On' button in the main window.

4) If using Windows 95/98/98SE/Me, set your frequencies manually first, then
   follow step 3.

5) Once confident with the program, you can try the Advanced Settings, where you
can, for example, optimize your PC's default mode, hide the system tray icon,
and auto-run the program when you log on to your PC. There's more to the
program than what first meets the eye, so take a good look around.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEMS

1) Computer booting in corrupt mode: I'm afraid you're going to have to reboot
   your PC in safe mode:
i ) Hold F8 when your computer starts.
ii ) Boot into Safe Mode.
iii ) Log on as an Administrator if necessary.
iv ) Move RefreshLock to another directory or delete it, so it cannot start.
v ) Find your way to the Display Control Panel by right-clicking a blank
part of the desktop and clicking 'Properties'.
vi ) Click the Settings tab in the new 'Display Properties' window.
vii ) Click the 'Advanced' button.
   viii) Click the 'Monitor' tab.
ix ) Change the 'Screen refresh rate' to it's lowest setting, or a mode
         compatible with your monitor.

If you do not understand any of this, I advise you switch off your PC & monitor
and get a computer knowledgable person to help you.

2) Other problems: Check the FAQ.txt file that should be in the same directory as
this. That may provide you with a solution.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WARNINGS/NOTICES

If you change monitors, make sure you change the driver with it. Just remember,
if you have RefreshLock running on startup, or if you have it using custom modes,
you MAY damage your new monitor in the event of a frequency being sent to it that
it was not designed to cope with. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really hope this little program makes your gaming pleasure that bit smoother,
and don't forget, it's FREEWARE, so give it to anyone you want!

DATA THIS PROGRAM STORES

This program writes your configuration settings to %WINDIR%\RefreshLock.ini, and
stores a value named 'RefreshLock' in the registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run,
if you choose to have the program run on startup. It is NOT recommended you
modify the .ini file manually, however you may safely delete the .ini file, or
the registry value.
